Agrivoltaics: the right synergy between agricultural production and renewables
Agrivoltaics appears set to become a strategic element for the protection and sustainable development of territories.
At both national and international levels, there is growing consensus that the integration of photovoltaic systems within rural contexts can generate mutual benefits for agricultural and energy activities—minimizing land consumption while simultaneously supporting crop production. This is contingent, however, on solutions that effectively balance the needs of all stakeholders, ensuring that energy generation does not come at the expense of agricultural output.
Installation solutions must not compromise the continuity of farming activities carried out beneath and/or between panel structures, enabling a true dual-use of land. Moreover, for certain crops, the presence of agrivoltaic systems can even lead to improved agricultural yields.
